The Mexican economy has been transformed during the past several decades, a transformation that has made the service side of the economy a larger share of value added. The biggest movers within the service side of the economy have been the commerce and financial activities sectors. Correspondingly, the industrial sector’s participation has shrunk, with the largest declines in participation occurring in the mining and construction sectors. Manufacturing activity has been able to keep its participation in the economy relatively constant, perhaps benefiting from the growth experienced by its automobile sector.
